Language
Japanese is the official language, with regional dialects. Some English is spoken but note: most signs are written in Japanese characters and you will not always find English translations.
Best Time to Go
The best time to visit Japan is during spring March-May and autumn September-November. During this time you will have the opportunity to view beautiful cherry blossoms or bright red leaves. Note: it can also be very crowded at this time. The summer months (June to August) offer ideal conditions for hikers in the Japanese Alps and Hokkaido’s wild national parks. Elsewhere, the weather is hot and humid. Rainy season begins at the end of May until the middle of June or July.
Make note of Japan’s national holiday mid-August or mid-July, (depending on the area) and the Golden Week (between April 29 and May 5), which are busy times for residents.
